From my start at HTC, I worked on the core imaging HW+SW propositions for phones 2011-2015.

We introduced a new Ultrapixel camera system that de-bunked megapixels for megapixels sake and proved superior sensitivity for low light and moving subjects.

We invented ‘Zoe’ live capture modes with a rolling memory cache to get minus 1 second before you press the button through 2 seconds after of still bursts plus video to make sure you never missed a shot. Apple adopted this feature later as ‘live photos’.

We also introduced the instant auto movie maker features within the HTC gallery app. Within the gallery you could see, re-mix and share short automatic composition videos made from this new variety of imaging assets gathered with the Zoe capture mode with music and transitions. Google and Apple have adopted this concept in their own offerings of summary videos.

We continued to make breakthroughs with the first integrated dual-camera capture system to gather 3D depth-mapping data to produce portrait effects with a shallow depth of field and digital bokeh.

We also had great selfie innovations going all in on superior front facing cameras with wider angles, bigger sensors and front flash features.

My first HTC imaging project was the “UltraPixel” Sensor HW sensor + optical image stabilization + RAW ISP proposition architecture pitch.

The Zoe get-it-all capture proposition: press the button like always and get the shot plus a burst+video asset that starts 1 second before you press the button until 2 seconds after.
